About Susan Bernstein
My commitment is to support entrepreneurs, leaders, visionaries, and passionate professionals to step into their full power, so they can make the tremendous impact they were born to make in the world.
In virtually every role I’ve played in my career, I’ve found a way to be involved in supporting high-achieving professionals to navigate transitions and express their maximum potential as leaders. Along the way, I observed that the world is moving faster and faster. Whether through the external pressures of chaos and uncertainty, or through internal pressures, I watched smart, high-achieving professionals get held back from being their most sensational selves.
I’ve discovered that being well-educated, intellectually sharp, and professionally accomplished does not guarantee you’ll weather changes. In the marketplace, in company shakeups, and other shifts, you need more than your smarts to emerge from chaos feeling calm and confident. Especially if you’re driven and hard on yourself, when unexpected changes occur, it’s easy to become overwhelmed by stress, confusion, and emotional turmoil.
I’m out to shift all of that. I firmly believe that we can all get better at navigating change and uncertainty. And it’s not just about figuring out how to do things better and faster.
Navigating change is about feelings — both emotions and sensations. When harnessed and refined, your sensitivity is the superpower that allows you to radiate what’s truly sensational about yourself.
You shift into your most sensational self by listening to, trusting, and following the natural instincts and impulses of your body. Your body is so much more than a vehicle for carrying your brain around or an object to “dress for success.” Through your sensations, your body signals you to find your direction, navigate through chaos and conflict, connect in a powerful and gutsy way with others, and stand up and express what’s true for you.
My Professional & Educational Background
My ability to support professionals to become more confident, collaborative, and creative leaders comes from partly from pragmatic MBA strategic perspective that I honed in demanding executive development and management consulting roles at companies including Franklin-Covey, Intel, and Accenture, where I supported clients in volatile markets and transitions.
The other part of my expertise comes from deep psychological insights into the nature of personal and professional transformation, gleaned from my PhD level training in the cutting-edge perspectives of Somatic Psychology, also known as mind/body psychology. This relatively young branch of psychology draws from neuroscience, neurobiology, and mindfulness practices. I blend my talents to help clients move past the internal and external roadblocks that hold them back and create the momentum they seek for making positive change.
I earned my MBA at UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business and both an MA and a PhD in Somatic Psychology (also known as Mind-Body Psychology) at the Santa Barbara Graduate Institute, which became a division of the Chicago School for Professional Psychology.
